Labour Manifesto includes Metro Mayors
Date: 12/04/2010The Labour Party Manifesto includes plans for referendums on directly elected mayors with London-style powers for Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and other city regions. In response, Dermot Finch, Chief Executive of the Centre for Cities said,
"It's good to see plans for mayors with London-style powers across England's largest city regions (in the Labour manifesto). We've been calling for ‘metro mayors' over the past five years. Elected mayors would have a direct personal mandate to take difficult decisions across city regions about how to grow their economies. They would engage voters and provide strong leadership, accountability and strategic vision."
