Dr Adam Marshall, Head of Policy and Chris Webber, Researcher at the Centre for Cities, will be launching the Centre's new report.
Every city has a long wish list of major transport projects. But at a time when financial resources are limited, how can Leeds - and other cities - make intelligent investments that boost their local economies? Are the 'hidden' economic benefits of urban transport projects being properly counted by the Department for Transport and the Treasury? Should the Leeds City Region, and other big urban areas, prioritise access to jobs in city centres - or should they concentrate on linking towns across the region?
New research from the Centre for Cities, to be launched at the offices of the Yorkshire Post on Wednesday 28th November, shows how the Leeds City Region - and other major urban areas - can make a stronger case for transport investment. In the light of the government's renewed drive to improve regional economies, it will present new evidence that shows how improvements to local transport networks could add tens of millions of pounds to the City Region's economy each year.
The research also compares the various options available to the Leeds City Region - and shows just how much extra economic benefit would be created with smart new investments in the city-region's transport networks.
The launch of this new report will take place in Leeds and will be chaired by the editor of the Yorkshire Post. For more information, please contact Rosamund Taylor on 020 7803 4300.
