Economic Prosperity: the Sub-National Contribution

Date: 14/11/2007
End Date: 18/11/2007

Speakers:

Dermot Finch, Director of the Centre for Cities, will be speaking at this event on the future for the Core Cities.

The sub-national review of economic development reported in July this year. The purpose of this review is to strengthen economic performance in regions, cities and localities across England. The review proposed reforms in four key areas:

Empowering local authorities to promote economic development; Support for local authorities to work together at the sub-regional level; Strengthening the regional level and central government’s relations with regions and localities.

Following on from the Lyons Inquiry review which called for improved incentives for local authorities to promote economic prosperity and growth, this event will explore the implications of the sub-national review on local economic development and understand how new local authority powers can be used at a regional and sub-regional level.
