Housing policy is at a turning point. The Regeneration Framework has set out a new focus on delivering economic inclusion through improving the economic performance of deprived places. The housing green paper, due out later this year, is expected to set out ideas on tackling worklessness through social housing and the role of the private rented sector in helping to provide the quantity and quality of housing. 2009 will see the new Homes and Communities Agency and Tenants Services Authority helping to bring housing and regeneration closer together. Meanwhile, we've seen the credit crunch kick in and the onset of a housing market downturn, alongside wider economic uncertainty.
The Housing Corporation has commissioned some analysis from the Centre for Cities on the linkages between housing and economic development to help policy makers and practitioners bring these agendas closer together.
This seminar provides an opportunity to discuss the emerging findings of this work and debate policy solutions. How are current housing market instability and longer term affordability issues affecting the economic performance across UK city regions? How can better quality housing draw people, skills and investment into our cities? What have past initiatives taught us about the success factors in linking housing improvements to economic performance?
This is an invitation-only event.
