Skills and Employment for the Regions 2008

Date: 21/10/2008

Bringing together senior representatives from further education and training providers; Local Authorities and RDAs; SSCs and employers, this 7th annual conference will map a course through the complex policy landscape for regional skills and economic development and examine how effectively to join up the work of all partners on the skills and regeneration agendas.

Anticipating the implications of the Sub-National Review Consultation for the leadership of the regional skills agenda, this established event will explore how to build effective partnerships to articulate and meet local and regional skills and economic development needs. Delegates will consider the implications of the UKCES for the future sector and regional skills agendas; the future role of RDAs in 14-19 and adult skills policy; and what preparations FE Colleges and Local Authorities need to make now for the shift of LSC funding in 2010.

Adam Marshall, head of policy at Centre for Cities, will be speaking on the topic of Devolution and elected mayors - Leading and joining-up the skills and employment agenda at a local and regional level. Centre for Cities has recently published a report on Worklessness: A City approach - available for download here
