Internship experience at Centre for Cities
"The internship at Centre for Cities is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. As an intern you will be involved in a range of projects, including working on reports with partner cities and contributing to research projects. In addition to the extensive research tasks, you will have opportunities to conduct presentations and attend external events.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Centre for Cities and I developed my research, analytical and communication skills. This resulted in Vision Twentyone (a social research consultancy) offering me a job. If any graduate is looking for some work experience to forge a career in policy, then I could not recommend this internship more highly."
Paul Johnson, intern March – June 2010
"During your time at Centre for Cities you get the opportunity to work as part of a busy research team on an array of projects, such as in depth studies and reports for partner cities. As an intern at the Centre for Cities you will be expected to contribute to the team's work through discussing and critiquing policy ideas. Your knowledge will be valued, especially when updating the team on your own specialist topics. I learnt considerably and quickly in my time there, improving all of my research and analysis skills, as well as key skills like presenting and communication.
Attending external events, meetings and conferences is encouraged and adds to the learning process. My time at the Centre was always interesting and enjoyable and was such a success that I had my stay extended by 6 weeks. During this time I saw the Cities Outlook report grow from idea to final product, giving me a good overview of the whole research process and sense of satisfaction at having completed my main piece of work.
There are opportunities to make contacts for your future career, and with all the experience the internship brings I would highly recommend the role."
Sam Nair, intern August - December 2009
